Island Labour Women’s Branch
The Isle of Wight Women’s Branch meets as one united group, covering both of the Island’s two parliamentary constituencies. This enables us to campaign on a cross-Island basis as well as tackling regional and national issues to safeguard our rights.
We are welcoming and friendly, holding regular formal structured meetings as well as informal events. All women, whatever your background and age, are very welcome to come and join us at our in-person and our online Zoom meetings.
The Labour Party is committed to equality, diversity and inclusivity and there are processes in place to ensure equal representation by women within the party at all levels, so that that our voices are heard.
Our Branch encourages the active participation and representation of women members in local campaign work, policy discussions and Party meetings. We promote women’s interests and concerns by engaging in activities with the women of the electorate on the Island, and building relationships with relevant women’s community groups.
We support the development of women members and encourage women to stand for positions, such as being a local Councillor. We also support women members to attend a range of Labour conferences and forums as delegates.
As part of our democratic processes, we discuss and support formal written motions to be put forward to the main constituency party for consideration. Successful motions can influence local decisions, wider party discussions and even national policy making within the party via the National Policy Forum (NPF) or the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.
We live in an age of huge social, industrial and political change, now is the time to get involved and have your voice heard and included in the conversation.
Labour Women's Network
The Labour Women’s Network exists to secure the election of more Labour women to public office at every level and to support Labour women to play a full part in the Party. You can find out more about the great work of women in our party, and how you can become a member here:
